Lessons in Leadership:The Betty Irene Moore Speaker Series

We are proud to be connected with this series featuring nationally-recognized nurse leaders whose leadership spans nursing, health care, government and other sectors. The collection includes 12 individual videos, each focused on one leader, plus a compilation video highlighting all 12. In each, leaders reflect on the lessons learned and strategies that shaped their successes and leadership roles. The leaders include numerous recipients of “Living Legend” awards; faculty members from top universities; CEOs, executive directors and board members of the nation’s leading health care organizations; and prominent policy advisers.

We are pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the Moore Foundation to bring in one of these nurse leasers next spring.  Watch this space for updates!

U.S. Nurse Encouraged to Contribute to National Workforce Research

Approximately 260,000 nurses in the U.S. will receive a survey from National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN®) and The National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers in the month of July. All nurses who receive the survey are strongly encouraged to respond as quickly and completely as possible to enable NCSBN and The National Forum to construct an accurate description of the current nursing workforce.

The 2015 survey targets both registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs). Selected nurses were drawn as a nationally-representative sample of the more than 4.5 million RNs and LPN/VNs currently licensed in the U.S.

If you receive this survey, we urge you to participate!

Forum on Rural Health and Academic Progression

A forum was recently held in Denver with teams from over 20 rural states to discuss challenges in rural health and how academic progression might fir into solutions.

Attendees from New Mexico discussed graduating bachelor’s prepared nurses in rural New Mexico and compared the challenges and advantages currently faced.

The on-going efforts of NMNEC were presented to the gathering as well as the collaboration currently underway between Western New Mexico University and Gila Regional Medical Center in the form of externship and internship programs to help the new graduate nurse transition from school to workplace. As a work in progress, it’s hoped that the model that is developed between WNMU and GRMC will be an exemplar for other rural programs and practice partners. Both WNMU and GRMC are also interested in establishing a wider networking community in which challenges can be discussed and solutions developed.
